DecimalAge

DecimalAge is a simple application to express the age of a person in a "y.f" decimal format, where "y" is the integer part of the age (years), and "f" is the fractional part (fraction of a year). The age is computed from the very present time of the system clock.

Use

DecimalAge was developed and tested on Mac OS X 10.2.6 ("Jaguar"), using some classes of the Cocoa/OpenStep framework. Currently, DecimalAge works only on Mac OS X, but it should be easily portable to GNU/Linux platforms using the GNUstep framework. This computer program comes "as is", with no warranty of any kind about its use and misuse - even if maybe there are not so many ways this program can be misused. Nevertheless, read the GNU GPL license for more thorough indications. I think DecimalAge can be used to prove the inconsistency of the concept of "Age".

Freedom

This is free software (software libero) under the GNU GPL license. Please read the GNU philosophy. Please also support the GNUstep project. Please also consider a small donation to show your support to free software.

Idea

The idea of this little program came from Zoey. Zoey is a very cool young girl who shared some time with my wife and I during the 21st and 22nd of June 2003. Those days, among other things, we went fruit-picking in Brentwood, Northern California. On our way there, she said "I'm 11.6 years old". I realized I don't know my decimal age. So I made this little application.

Precision

DecimalAge computes the age of a person with a fair amount of precision. It considers leap years, executes calculations in double precision, and gives you the age up-to-now, that is, it counts from your birth date to the date and hour expressed by the local system clock.

Why

"It's fun...."

With Dedication

This program is dedicated to Zoey, and to the very nice day spent together. Questo programma è dedicato a Zoey.
