That’s a long interview with Ronald Takaki conducted on (March 1st 2009).
I just learned about Ronald Takaki via my wife. He taught the first African-American history class in 1967 when he was 28, and defined the US as a multicultural nation. Thanks to him UC Berkeley now has a American Cultures Requirement, which if I understand correctly is now necessary for graduation on all courses at UC Berkeley. That’s impressive.
These kinds of studies should be requirements at all universities worldwide.
E.g. Italy is a nation of Italians and little is taught toward other cultures. It’s very fertile ground for the Berlusconi’s and other fascisms.
