April 19: Repubblica, the biggest Italian online newspaper, didn’t think this intimidation by Italy’s future prime minister was too wrong: in fact it appeared at mid page, next to a pair of boobs. (A pretty nice pair, I might say.) At least I know which piece of news I’m gonna click!

Non era abbastanza mettere pubblicità prima, dopo, e tutt’attorno i video su internet. Ora Google dopo ponderate riflessioni ha deciso che è invece meglio (per loro ovviamente) metterli DENTRO i video stessi. L’idea non è nuova ma è facile pensare che questo diventerà il nuovo standard. Da notare che le pubblicità sono SOPRA il video stesso, nella parte bassa. Alcuni pensano che così sono meno intrusive… ma dove??

Two things I can see from the CNN screenshot (taken today Feb 5 around 11:20 PM):
1. People are voting for a candidate who already bailed from the race (Edwards got out a week ago)
   Corollary: Either I am missing something basic (votes for Edwards’ are transfered to whoever he endorses?) or somebody is pretty disconnected from reality.

2. CNN doesn’t even report results for the only “other” democratic candidate around, Mike Gravel.

It has to be said that CNN (and all other mainstream media outlets) has totally ignored Gravel giving him no TV air time, so at least they are coherent bastards. However, how can legit “alternative” candidates like Gravel ever stand a chance if no-one even consider them? Has he lost before even trying, or are we making him lose? Is this democratic? Is this giving everybody a fair chance? I don’t pretend equality, just the fairness of doing your job.

La recensione del libro di Tim Ferriss “The 4-hour work week” sul Corriere della Sera è un esempio di pressapochismo adolescenziale e miopia culturale. E’ davvero avvilente vedere un giornalista (Massimo Gaggi) che per criticare un libro riduce a macchietta il suo autore, trentenne di successo che troppo stupido non sarà, irridendo e ridicolizzando le sue passioni così come le teorie del suo libro. E’ la solita irritazione per ciò che non si capisce o per ciò che si capisce ma non si vuole ammettere, secondo me tipica di molti itaGliani. Gli stessi che appena arrivati a San Francisco si scandalizzano perchè il cibo italiano è di scarsa qualità, o perchè al ristorante tailandese non servono il pane (giuro, è successo davvero).

L’italiano tipico è forte della sua assoluta eccellenza in ogni campo: dal cibo, allo stile di vita, alla cultura (e intendo tutto lo scibile umano), alla superiorità delle “nostre” scuole, all’arte, alla moda, al caffè fino alla bellezza della nostra lingua e dei nostri cazzi. Basta guardare i politici come Rutelli per avere un esempio. Ma per piacere.

L’Italia oggi è un paese la cui arte è morta da tempo, la ricerca è nulla, l’iniziativa personale scoraggiata e la maggioranza dei suoi cittadini vive fiera in un bieco provincialismo medioevale. Il Corriere è la voce di questa italica superiorità. Signor Gaggi, e Corrieri tutti, abbiate l’umiltà di ammettere che esistono altre modalità di pensiero, altri contesti e altre strategie di vita, ugualmente valide proprio come le vostre, se non di più.

Net neutrality is a pretty basic subject about the future of the internet. You are either in favor, or not. Why is Senator McCain’s position so convoluted? How about a simple yes or no. (’Cos there’s no maybe, really.)

Question: Let’s talk about net neutrality. It’s probably the most important issue in Silicon Valley, and yet it rarely makes its way to Washington-level consciousness. Barack Obama recently came out saying that he would promise to make it a priority if he became president. What is your position on the net neutrality issue?

McCain Answer: In general, I think we need to move to a different model for thinking about the FCC. I think it should focus on policing clearly anti-competitive behavior and consumer predators. But, frankly, until some foul has been committed, I don’t think it should be interfering in the market, and probably shouldn’t be trying to micromanage American business and innovation. This is a very tough issue, because if you look at the extremes of it, then, obviously it has significant consequences – you can’t restrain the market, you can’t say that people can’t make a living or a profit off of the Internet. That obviously is not the intent of why the Internet was invented, and the reason why it has flourished. So what I would like to do is keep an eye on what goes on with the Internet, whether people are taking unfair advantage of it, whether people are being ripped off, and how this thing progresses. The great thing about the Internet is that it has enjoyed, to a large degree, immunity from federal interference and federal regulation. So, I have a tendency to say, look, let’s see how this thing all turns out, rather than anticipate something that, a problem that so far has not arisen in any significant way. I know that sounds a little bit equivocal, but it has a lot to do with my reluctance to use, my inclination to use government intervention only when it’s absolutely necessary.

Il concetto di un’Autorità chiamata a giudicare e a stabilire chi è tenuto a pagare la internet tax è una cosa ancora più assurda se vediamo chi, effettivamente, sarà chiamato a giudicare. Corrado Calabrò, 72 anni.

Una legge fatta su misura per Grillo — internet dà fastidio. La gente è incazzata: tra gli 8000 9800 10000 commenti di oggi sul blog di Grillo il più normale era “mitragliamoli tutti”.

A guy on TV literally asking, “Why should we care about Myanmar??” I can’t believe a CNN news anchor just said that.

Comincio a preoccuparmi per l’incolumità di Grillo. Queste sono minacce belle e buone. Mazza ripete la parola “grilletto” tre volte in un minuto e trenta secondi. Con quella faccia. Più diretto di così non si può. Veramente terribile.
